Why AI Dungeon defaults to combat

The original AI Dungeon model was trained heavily on adventure text and prompted toward escalating stakes. The pattern stuck. Even when you specify "I want a quiet life," the narrator finds a reason to introduce a bandit, a portal, a prophecy. The architecture of the prompt biases toward drama because drama is what most users wanted.

Voyage and Friends & Fables inherit this default. Their examples are about quests, dungeons, factions at war. Cozy isn't a niche they're built around.

What "cozy mode" actually does in Creation OS

When you start a world cozy-coded — or borrow one of the cozy showcase worlds — the engine activates a tone contract that suppresses urgency, refuses combat hooks, and keeps scene pressure low. The character generator picks non-adventurer professions (baker, weaver, herbalist, scribe, gardener). The AI narrator is prompted to write quiet afternoons, not impending wars.

Honest caveat

Cozy is a starting position, not a cage. The same engine runs dark fantasy, noir, sci-fi, post-apocalyptic. If you want to shift tone mid-campaign, you can. If you want to start cozy and stay cozy forever, the tone contract will hold. Your call.
