SillyTavern alternative.

SillyTavern is excellent and we're not trying to replace it. They're a self-hosted, open-source frontend you point at whatever LLM API or local model you want. Total control, total customisation, no platform restrictions. If you're technical and that's the shape you want, stay there. This page is for people who tried SillyTavern and decided they wanted a different kind of tool.

What SillyTavern is

A frontend. You bring the model, the API key, the prompts, the character cards, the lorebooks, the extensions. You can point it at OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, KoboldAI, your own quantised local model on a 4090, anything. The community ecosystem is massive: presets, regex extensions, character card libraries.

The freedom is total. The setup tax is also total. A first-time SillyTavern user reasonably needs an evening to get a working setup, longer if they want anything advanced.

What Creation OS is

A hosted, opinionated AI RPG product. We pick the models (Gemini 2.5 Pro for deep turns, Flash for fast). We define the prompt architecture. We run a real database underneath. We ship showcase worlds you can borrow in three minutes.

The trade is freedom for structure. You don't get to swap out the model or write your own regex extensions. You do get a working RPG out of the box.

What Creation OS adds that SillyTavern doesn't do

  • A real database. Inventory, NPCs, factions, ledgers. Not in chat history. Not narrated. Queried. Survives indefinitely.
  • Mechanical resolution. Skill checks resolve via dice with graduated outcomes. Combat has actual damage math. Forge production runs deterministically.
  • Showcase worlds. Click and play. No prompt engineering required. The cozy bakery, the noir port, the dark-fantasy fractured kingdom — all pre-built.
  • Long-campaign architecture. RAPTOR-style hierarchical chapter compression and semantic vector retrieval. Built specifically for 1000+ turn campaigns.
  • Onboarding for non-technical users. No API keys, no model picking, no extension installation. Sign up and play.

Pick SillyTavern if

  • You're technical and want full control of the stack.
  • You want to use a specific local or fine-tuned model.
  • You want zero content restrictions.
  • You enjoy the tinkering. The setup is the hobby.

Pick Creation OS if

  • You want to play, not configure.
  • You want a real RPG layer with mechanics, not just chat.
  • You want long campaigns where the world holds up.
  • You don't want to manage your own LLM bill.
